As the child of a USAF officer who served for over 35 years, Cheney’s life has been deeply influenced by the military world. It was a defining experience to be in the DC area in the 1960s and early 1970s. Cheney spent over a decade in Europe before returning to the US, completing three graduate degrees and teaching undergraduate and graduate students. Her poems have appeared in The Cortland Review, Tupelo Quarterly, Best of Tupelo Quarterly, Terminus, Poetry International (a translation), Scoundrel Time, and others. Cheney lives in Austin, Texas, where great horned owls nest and call to each other at night.
